Rose Parade Floats

Dave lied to you.

He promised that I’d write an All Things Thursday post for you last week, but I didn’t. Instead I wrote a little bit about resolutions and french toast sausages. Damn, those bad boys were good!

I guess I could’ve done a double post that day, but I just wasn’t feeling it. After french toasting and photo shooting, Dave and I took to Pasadena to check out the Rose Parade Floats.

It was a good time, but I could’ve done without the 81 degree weather. Wtf Pasadena? Can you give me a break, please?

Rose Parade Float: Sierra Madre

Every year the City of Sierra Madre creates the most spectacular floats. This guy is my second favorite.

Rose Parade Float: Giant Teddy Bear

All you need is love…and a giant teddy bear, of course.

Rose Parade Float: Safari

Tens of thousands of people come to see the floats every year. I think they were all standing around this one when Dave was trying to get a pic. What’s with that lady in the corner? Deep breaths, lady. We’re all in this together.

Rose Parade Float: Safari

So close, yet Safari away.

Rose Parade Float: Safari

Love this one. The lion is so fierce! Roar!

Rose Parade Float: White Suiter

It is a great honor to volunteer for the Tournament of Roses. This “white-suiter” got the job done with flair.

Rose Parade Float: Glenbearian

Check out Glenbearian, aka Meatball. This beloved brown bear is infamous for stealing meatballs from the citizens of Glendale. Can you blame him?

Rose Parade Float: Monster Truck

Alhambra kills it this year with a Monster Truck.

Rose Parade Float: Monster Truck

To top it off, they put monsters in the monster truck. Brilliant!

Rose Parade Float: Giant Flower

A giant flower made out of 1,000 tiny flowers…I think my brain just exploded!

Rose Parade Float: Clown Fish

Look at the detail on those clown fish. Just…wow!

Rose Parade Float: Rocket Ship

Adventures in Space: my favorite float of 2014. It was created by Public Storage.

Rose Parade Float: Rocket Ship

I don’t know who came up with the idea of a crew of aliens aboard a giant rocket ship, but they blew my mind with the colors, design, and mechanics of this float. It opens up for pete’s sake!

Rose Parade Float: Rocket Ship

The aliens were jettisoned from the rocket ship and drove right up to the audience. All I’m saying is…it’s a good thing we weren’t high. Kinda crazy.

…just a few of my favorites from 2014.

I’m so very lucky to live nearby so I can see, up close, all the hard work and creativity that goes into the Rose Parade Floats. I hope you enjoyed them as much as I did.

Until next time, my friends.

All Things Thursday: Christmas Cookie Edition

All Things Thursday: Christmas Cookie Edition

Hey there. Happy All Things Thursday!

Remember me? I know, I know…it’s been a minute. Please forgive my tardiness. I just woke up from a 4 hr nap. Naps are very necessary when you’re crazy busy. Crazy busy doing what, you ask? Making cookies, man…tons and tons of cookies.

Typically, during Christmastime, people are making cookies as gifts or for general snacking purposes. I get it…’tis the season. The thing is…I bake cookies for a living so during the holidays, when I’m baking thousands of cookies for corporate parties and the like, I’m not really into making cookies for myself.

That being said, I do love the holidays and the cookie celebration it brings. If I weren’t up to my eyeballs in dough, these are the treats I’d put on my Christmas table…

When I’m in the mood for sweet and crispy, I reach for these Chocolate Star Cookies. (Williams-Sonoma)

Little clouds of joy topped with icing? Yes, please. Italian Anise Cookies (Food)

Ah…the genius of Dorie Greenspan. Speculoos Buttons (Bon Appetit)

The perfect Sugar Cookie.

Sometimes the perfect sugar cookie needs Royal Icing. (Cupcakes and Cashmere)

What would Christmas be like without Gingerbread Snowflakes? I don’t wanna know. (Martha Stewart)

How cool would your mantle look with this Gingerbread Men Garland? Pretty freakin’ cool, man. (Donna Hay)

That’s it for me, friends. I’m taking my ginger-honey tea and heading back to bed. I hope your holiday is filled with family, friends and Irish Whiskey…and cookies, of course.

Nothing wins you friends faster than a full cookie jar.

Eat your Photography with Boomf

boomf

If you’re tired of the same old impersonal snacks, then Boomf is the service for you.  For the low price of $20, Boomf will print 9 of your favorite Instagram photos on Marshmallows.  That’s right …. Marshmallows.  The next time you want to relive great family memories, don’t reach for the photo albums, pull out the Marshmallows!

Photography isn’t as permanent as it used to be with services like Snapchat, but this takes things to a whole ‘nutha level.  Forget about deleting photos, now you can eat photos.

Considering these are printed on food, I gotta say the demo’s look pretty good. But who cares, it’s a photo printed on a Marshmallow.  Nobody is going to call Boomf and complain about their blacks dropping out.

Boomf is located in the UK, but they do ship worldwide.  With Christmas around the corner, this could make the perfect gift for your favorite photographer.

I don’t know about you, but after checking out these photos, I never want to eat boring old Marshmallows again.

All Things Thursday: Pre-Thanksgiving Edition

All Things Thursday: Pre-Thanksgiving Edition

Happy All Things Thursday but it’s really Wednesday, Everybody!

Are you ready for I’m-About-To-Stuff-Myself-Into-A-Coma Thanksgiving Day? Well, if you’re not then put on those pants with the elastic waistband and you’re half-way there.

Alright then.

Just a quick note to let you know that we, here at I bake he shoots, will be on vacay for a minute; but we will still be busy.  First, we will stuff our faces. Then, we will drink, drink, drink. Next, we will nap like there’s no tomorrow. And of course…repeat, repeat, repeat.

Please know that through it all, we will miss you and promise to return.

Peace and Blessings,

Mondo & David

P.S. This Thanksgiving we are thankful for your visits, comments and general hanging-around. And of course, cornbread.

All Things Thursday: Spit Sandwich Edition

All Things Thursday: Spit Sandwich Edition

Happy All Things Thursday, people!

Are you as excited as I am? Probably not, but that’s ok. I still love ya.

A former McDonald’s employee was sentenced to 29 months in jail for spitting in a cop’s sandwich. Apparently, Dalton Ursulean spit on the sandwich for approxinmately 50 seconds. Not only did he serve the cop a Spit Sandwich, he super-sized it with a dose of Hepatitis C. Jeez, that’s a lot of hate, right there. (Huffington Post)

I thought I was obsessed with cookies. Then I saw a video of Chip Chocolate sitting in a vat of milk wearing a giant cookie a la Flavor Flav. Pardon me while I rethink my definition of ‘obsessed’.

I’ve taken crappy food photos with my phone. Who hasn’t? I would think the answer to that question is ‘Martha Stewart’.  I guess her food doesn’t always look perfect after all.

On the recipe front…

Ms. Gina over at Skinnytaste has created a recipe for Slow Cooker Garlic Sweet Potato Mash. It looks absolutely delicious. Count me in. (Skinnytaste)

I’ve been making a lot of stove top popcorn lately, but I haven’t tried this method. Color me intrigued. (Pastry Affair)

Easy Garlic Bread is something I’m quite keen on. I’ve heard of this recipe before, but never tried it. Perhaps, this weekend? (Simply Recipes)

My mom used to make us pan-fried pork chops back in the day and they were fantastic. I miss them. Perhaps, these Crisp Pork Cutlets would be the next best thing. (Food52)

It’s been a long and beautiful rainy day in L.A. and I loved it. Wherever you are I hope you are nice and cozy by the fire, drinking a cup of tea and enjoying some great conversation.

Until next time, my friends.
